Christopher Owens has released another track teasing his upcoming new album, following on nicely from March's beautiful 'It Come Back to You'. 'Stephen' uses clear religious imagery, and the sounds of its music, but it's not entirely devote, mostly using faith as allegory for loss.

'Stephen' has certain similarities to the religious minded work of Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan's born-again period (there's a little 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' in there too, but maybe that's just the choir), yet Owens has a far more interesting relationship with faith than either of them. Owens was raised within the Children of God, a traveling religious community that are widely considered to be a cult. It's a subject that he's only lightly broached within his music so far, but considering 'Stephen's lyrics feature the phrase 'Children of God', that might be about to change on his forthcoming record.
