I love scrambling words and adding punctuations. Anyways, it's pretty obvious that the word 'cool' has been overused and everyday, when I discover knew bands, new sounds, new everything, I try to search around in my brain for descriptive words other than 'cool'...i haven't got any unique ones just yet. But for the two France-based bands, Dirty Jacket and Virgin Subjects, they're pretty hunky-dory ...! virgin subjects: Dirty Jacket So the other day while waiting for my next lecture to begin, browsing through myspace I came across Dirty Jacket and the Virgin Subjects. They've each got their unique indie rock n' roll sounds of the 21st century, but moreso that classic rock 'n roll undertone that saturates their rockstar vintage persona. So to introduce the boys of the Virgin Subjects en francais: there's Bob qui joue Guitare, Maxence qui Chant... Florian: Ambianceur Kevin: Batterie Keumar: Basse Boris : Guitare "Radio Video", "I Don't Care," and a cover of Richard Berry's 1955 "Louie Louie" (later the Kingsmen in the 60s recorded their version), are the only 3 songs up on there myspace. Three, and I wish there were more! The band's sound definitely mediates more towards the late 60s indie/garage rock but once in a while some metal kicks in. Think Warhol, the Kinks. Amazzzzzzzzzzzzzing.

As for the boys of Dirty Jacket, Sam, Louis, Loic, and Juju...

they describe their sound in quite a comical and genius way: 'Looking for Girls & Brown Sugar'. Makes me laugh and reminisce a bit. Immediately I thought 70s rock and roll. "Another Way" and "She Turns Me On" reflect to the T their brown sugar-rock sound. If you're a mingler of music like me, they sound great alongside some Led Zeppelin, david bowie, T-rex, and so forth (both the Virgin Subjects + Dirty Jacket, actually!). So in general, I am finally satisfied that two bands that say they "sound like rock and roll" have pulled off the 60s/70s-esque rock n roll! The fusion between the classic rock with the new-age indie is very well done and its what makes these boys from France brilliant, genius, magical, and almost reaching out of this world fantastic. And even if you're not that keen on this genre of music, they're soo much fun to listen to! I'm thrilled and can't wait until they get signed and push out some LPs.
