There's musicians who remind us just how revealing one can be on a record, and then there are others who achieve this while also veiling their stories in smoke and darkness. Marissa Nadler has done the latter throughout her career, and yet on her latest album, For My Crimes, it feels like we’re hearing her voice for the first time. A lot of that is due to the manner in which she’s singing, along with the experiences she’s singing about. The songs on the album leave you speechless, without feeling the need to ponder what she’s singing about. Ken Grand-Pierre met up with Nadler to discuss how this beautiful album came to be.

“Songwriting isn’t a career for me, it’s so much more than that.”
