I'm going to be honest - this is probably the most emotional episode we’ve ever published. Many of us would agree that we look to artists to show us their truths. It’s that expectation that makes it that much more poignant when we come across songwriting that’s undeniably truthful. That’s where Wisconsin native Monica Martin is currently at with her career.

Though already a successful singer with projects such as PHOX and Violents, Monica has decided that it’s time for her to tell the world her stories and all the baggage that comes with being young and different in America. Throughout this episode, she shares with Ken Grand-Pierre the difficulties of writing songs that depict her innermost feelings and why it took her so long to arrive at this point.

“It’s become obvious to me that you can’t please everyone.”
