There must be a sense of liberation that comes with adopting a global sound, especially when it happens as naturally as it does for Red Baraat. The NYC-based band are known for being proud of their South Asian heritage and projecting that pride within their music. But even with that specificity, the sound of Red Baraat has grown into something else and the best evidence of this is their upcoming album Sound The People. It’s both their most expansive and experimental album to date, featuring some truly talented collaborators (Heems, Ali Sethi, etc.) and a Red Baraat that’s willing to be more spontaneous. Ken Grand-Pierre linked up with Sunny Jain of the band, to discuss the process of bringing the album to life.

“The idea of not knowing what was going to happen next was definitely refreshing.”
