Dark Dark Dark – The Fleece // 26th August 2012

These Minneapolis 8-piece folksters are offering the highlight of this week in Bristol. As much of the city's population recovers from a weekend partying at See No Evil, it seems that business is back to usual for live music. The Summer always scares away touring bands as free events dominate the time of Bristolians, so celebrate your August bank holiday weekend in style.

Stockhausen's Mittwoch Aus Licht – Argyle Works // 22nd – 25th August 2012

Birmingham Opera Company have a well-earned reputation for presenting operatic works in innovative and exciting ways, but nothing they’ve done so far will hold a candle to this world premiere of an almost unstageable work by contemporary electronic composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. Performances (six hours long) feature four string quartets carried in the air by four helicopters, a dancing camel defecating planets and Radio 1 DJ Nihal amongst other delights. One of THE live events of 2012.
