Photobucket Photobucket Eux Autres / Standard Fare – Undertone // 28th February 2011 As far as line-ups go, this gig put on by the formidable Loose promoters could almost be a mini-festival. Them Squirrels are a Cardiff based experimental four-piece featuring members of Islet and other rocking bands, dabbling in vocal loops, harmonies and distortion, plenty of noise, the odd bit of double drumming, and a slightly math-y feel. The Jelas are from Bristol and make arty, choppy, poppy post-punk sounds – perhaps armed with a new album. Standard Fare are Sheffield’s twee-ish indie pop/rock boy-girl vocalled three-piece singing about almost sleeping with underage boys and distant love. Eux Autres are Portland’s 60s inspired indie pop duo exports with twanging guitars, sweet boy-girl (brother-sister) rallying vocals. Suffice to say you should get down early. Photobucket Photobucket Former Ghosts – Green Door Store // 4th March 2011 Anybody who knows the work of Jamie Stewart and Former Ghosts will need no convincing to attend this night, especially given the intimate and interesting backdrop that fairly new and super cool venue The Green Door Store will provide for the Xiu Xiu frontman. For those unaware of Stewart’s work, prepare for a dark and heavy evening. Support coming from the likes of Fear Of Men mean it’s worth getting down early for, too. Photobucket Photobucket Beady Eye - Manchester Apollo // 6th and 7th March 2011 Whether you liked them or not, Oasis are somewhat regarded as music legends. And, whether you like it or not, the news of their split is like the end of an era. So, for your Oasis hit, see Beady Eye. It is the essence of Oasis, without Noel and the unpredictable tension! But do not underestimate them. They are a brilliant band in their own right. Classic indie with a comforting retro feel. So, get the debut album on Monday, and see them live Sunday/Monday!
