Wherever you are in the world: good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night. It is time for your 5 a day.

One day, the UK government said, "You should eat 5 portions of fruit or veg[etables] per day." Turns out you should probably eat more than that. But we think it's pretty catchy, so we've hijacked it. Here we'll list FIVE pieces of music per DAY that we think you should check out. As the Italians say, we'll be catching two pigeons with one bean (prendere due piccioni con una fava): we help spread the word about MORE artists, plus we're giving YOU more music to listen to. It's all a joy for us, really!

First off: you can't really go wrong with ABSRDST, and this 4/4 house-flavoured track 'Touch The Source' is deep and soft and lovely. Secondly: The gradual wash of sound summoned up from a simple beat and percussive synths is impressive stuff from holy rain. Third thing: esta's ultrasmooth Sade reworking. Fourthly: can you deny the beauty of this delicious and all-encompassing chill-flavoured track from SG Lewis? Fifthly: there are some ultra-bliss beats from mao lafsson.

Spending your time at a club in the midst of a ponderous existential crisis. Someone offers you a drink. "No thanks," you say, waving a hand, "I'm feeling nihilistic."

You wake up late, having been made redundant from your job just yesterday. Yawning, you look out the window, free time hopes fill your mind. You think, The world looks different today.

Your coffee sits tantalising on the counter as you reach for your wallet. Shit, you think, left it at home. "Oh man, I'm sorry, I left my wallet…" you begin to say. "That's fine," the girl behind the till smiles and pushes the coffee cup towards you. "Next time." Smiles showing teeth. You both laugh briefly.

You slide slow into a scorching bath. "Eeeeshhhh," you can't help but vocalise the heat. Soon you're relaxing, nothing aches. This would be perfect if I was the kind of person who could switch off my thoughts, you think.

You're out to dinner at a fancy restaurant. You feel like it's way over your head, way above what you're used to. The tailored suit isn't helping. Your girlfriend seems to feel the same. "Let's pretend," she says. You order the second-most expensive wine when the waiter turns up.
