New York is a place that continues to be where artists dream of being. This was certainly the case with South African singer/guitarist Sulene, who’s found herself creating music in a way she could have never imagined.

With her magnificent EP, Strange, Sulene brings listeners into her world where fantasy and real-life experiences collide. It’s music that never adheres to one avenue - you can hear the traces of pop, atmosphere, and electronica within the songs, as well as the incriminate understanding of songwriting that Sulene has.

Ken Grand-Pierre caught up with Sulene to discuss touring with Nate Ruess and LPX, writing and recording in New York City, what it feels like to return to South Africa, and comfort vs. discomfort when it comes to writing. Check out their conversation below.

“I’m learning to be a lot more decisive with things.”
