There's exciting new for Beach Boys fans/completists, as well as music fans in general, today. The band has announced the pending release of a six CD box set titled Made In California. The collection will feature 60 original songs, as well as demos and alternate takes of tracks. Rounding out the nearly eight hours of music will be live performances culled from sources such as radio, television, and concert recordings, such as live BBC cuts from 1964.

Included in the expansive are a handful of rare and unreleased tracks from the Beach Boys’ vault. From songs like 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling', 'Soul Searchin' and 'California Feelin', to a capella mixes 'From the Vaults' (no pun intended).

Of course, the music is only half the fun of a box set. Made In California will be packaged to resemble a high school yearbook, with classic artwork and photos, "inscriptions" written from the band, as well as a Brian Wilson penned essay from 1959 titled 'My Philosophy'.

Made In California can be scooped up August 27th. [via CoS]
