It's been months since the deadly mass shooting at Orlando nightclub Pulse that left 49 people dead this summer. Finally, the city of Orlando has reached a deal to purchase the club for $2.25 million with plans to turn the space into a memorial for the victims.

Former owner, Barbara Poma opened the club in 2004 and since then, it has become a prominant safe space for Orlando's LGBTQ community. The mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer has shared that the city has plans to leave the club intact for another 12-18 months, before it is turned into a memorial to "honor the memory of the victims that are deceased [and] those that were injured, and a testament to the resilience of our community."
