It's been quite the year for Craig Finn. The Hold Steady frontman already released a highlight for 2019 via his solo LP, I Need a New War, and now his band is making their grand return.

The Hold Steady took something of a breather following 2014's Teeth Dreams, and perhaps it was needed, as the band has returned re-inspired and energized.

Thrashing Thru the Passion arrives on Frenchkiss Records come August 16th. In the mean time, the band has shared a brand new single, 'Denver Haircut'.

"'Denver Haircut' is a story about a guy who has chance meet up that takes him to a few different locations before leaving him alone and cashless in a strange hotel room," explains Finn.

It proved a clear genesis point: "When recording, we remarked that it sounded like it could kick off an album…and so here we are."

The album itself is something of a mixture, containing five brand new songs, recorded this year, along with five tracks released periodically over the past few years, proving something of an exercise in experimentation for the band.

Check out 'Denver Haircut' below and stay tuned for more from The Hold Steady soon.
