With sales of vinyl going up and up in this so-called age of the vinyl revival (feel free to mentally capitalise those two words if you deem it important enough), selling over a million for the first time in 20 years last year in the UK, the Official Charts Company have launched a vinyl chart.

Beginning this week, a weekly round-up of the biggest selling vinyl records will be published every Sunday at 7pm. This comes after a great year for vinyl in 2014, with album sales up 69% and single sales up 23%. Strange that it should be on a Sunday though: BBC Radio 1 recently announced that they'd be moving their chart show to Friday, harmonising with February's news that the official release date for all new releases would be Friday (to be implemented from summer 2015 onwards).

Karl Hyde, of Underworld (who top the singles chart this week) had this to say about it all:

"We're honoured to be Number 1 in the UK's first Official Vinyl Singles Chart. Vinyl has always been a hugely important part of what we do as Underworld. We started out selling 12"s of our records from the back of a car; it's still our format of choice when buying music and it's fantastic that it’s undergoing such a resurgence."

And here are the charts. Read them below with your eyeballs. The presence of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds throughout is a surprise.
