A shortlist of fifteen documentaries to be in the running for an Oscar nomination has been selected by The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, reports Variety. This shortlist will be whittled down to five titles, the official nominees, which will be announced on 14th January ahead of the actual Oscar night on 28th February.

In the current shortlist is Amy Winehouse documentary Amy and the Netflix-produced documentary What Happened, Miss Simone? about Nina Simone. In terms of other music documentaries, experimental musicmaker Laurie Anderson's Heart Of A Dog (which is about the death of her pet rat terrier, Lolabelle) appears on the list, but Kurt Cobain doc Montage Of Heck didn't make the cut.
