Rumblings of a new album from prog metal pioneers Tool started to pick up steam earlier this year when drummer Danny Carey said that new work would be released “sometime this year". Those rumors were immediately redacted by the band's frontman Maynard James Keenan, who said that, at the time, no new songs had actually been written.

However, in an interview with Loudwire earlier this week, Carey noted that he and several of his bandmates have been working on new compositions, with Keenan soon to join.

“Most likely,” Carey said, “it'll be early 2014”. So while Carey's original predictions were deterred, it seems as though they weren't very far off.
