Let's start with an apology: due to various "life commitments" our Songs / Videos of the Week features were put on hold. But fear not, they're back and looking better than ever (maybe). We'd also like to apologise for copying and pasting this apology across both features. We needed to ease back into this.

5. Toro Y Moi and Astronauts, Etc. - 'Rocket Man' (Elton John Cover)

4. Nicole Dollanganger - 'Angels of Porn II'

A damaged and decayed warbling of sounds and scratchy fuzzed-out guitars contrasted against her far-off and fragile vocals fluttering in.

3. Jayd Ink - 'This!'

The perfect soundtrack for those upcoming winter nights?

2. Louis The Child - 'It's Strange' (featuring K.Flay)

K.Flay's vocals wind with her characteristic lilt above playful toytronic melodies, a slo-down four-to-the-floor beat propelling it with a comfy feeling into parts where flute-flavoured synth chords boil and simmer over a fire of beautifully produced beats, nuanced textures effusing from it like the undeniably appealing aroma of home cooking.

1. Oedipus - 'Please B Okay'

A parade of looped classy strings, pulsing kicks, groovesome bassline, funk guitar, occasional twinkling piano, and organ solo, with the original vocal intact albeit in an endearingly half-decayed state, complete with guitar solo towards the end, dotted with the dynamic trappings of future funk as a genre: wide bays of treble reduction, and an achingly long fade-out, as if the party is always on.
