Anna Burch is a songwriter from Detroit, MI, who has risen up playing in that city's deep and storied DIY gig scene. With those experiences comfortably under her belt and the chops to take the lead, she is now stepping into the spotlight to release her debut album Quit The Curse.

This week she has released the title track from the album, which perfectly encapsulates the compelling dichotomy at play in her work. Sonically sunny and upbeat, with plenty of indie inflections and slacker stylings, the song seems like a perfectly jaunty number. Then Burch's signature dry voice cuts through it, tangibly evoking the titular curse of attraction to someone you know you shouldn't: "seeing you again could only make me/ kissing you again would probably break me." Although the song is full of regret and frustration, there is also a lightness that comes through Burch audibly overcoming the struggles and pushing through to a point where she can move on with her life.
