It's no secret that we adore Big Thief here on The 405, so we're excited to bring you the news that they'll be releasing a new album called Two Hands on October 11th. It's a short follow up to U.F.O.F., which came out in May, with the new album being described as the "earth twin" to the former's "celestial twin."

On the new record Adrianne Lenker says “Two Hands has the songs that I’m the most proud of; I can imagine myself singing them when I’m old... Musically and lyrically, you can’t break it down much further than this. It’s already bare-bones.”

You can get a first taste of Two Hands in the 6-minute single 'Not', a song that you might recognise from Big Thief's live performances this year. It's a rumbling countrified folk song, somewhat akin to U.F.O.F.'s title track, moving over aural terrain with supernatural grace. Lenker's voice is full-blooded, as she simply lists things that it's 'Not'; "Not the meat of your thigh/ Nor your spine tattoo/ Nor your shimmery eye/ Nor the wet of the dew." The spellbinding nature of her voice and imagery makes this song compelling in its simplicity, and dragged along by Big Thief's gradually building bluster, they become epic ideas blown in on an unknown wind. Lenker's voice grows in grittiness, Buck Meek's backing adds tension, and the rhythm section builds on this passion with increasing urgency - expanding 'Not' into one of Big Thief's most sonically urgent songs yet.

Big Thief's new album Two Hands is out October 11th via 4AD. They've got a bunch of big tour dates announced for early 2020, but they've also revealed an intimate London show at Bush Hall next Monday, August 19th, with tickets going on sale on Friday at 10am from here.
