Katherine Paul has announced the release of her second album as Black Belt Eagle Scout; it's called At the Party With My Brown Friends and it comes out through Saddle Creek on August 30th. A provocative title to be sure, Paul explains the idea behind it and lead single 'At The Party' saying:

“Within my conscious self, there is always a sense of questioning the legitimacy of the world when you grow up on an Indian reservation... We are all at the party (the world), trying to navigate ourselves within a good or bad situation. I happen to be at the party with my brown friends- Indigenous, Black, POC who always have my back while we walk throughout this event called life.”

'At the Party' immediately sounds like a sonic leap forward for Black Belt Eagle Scout, within the opening moments she sends us floating on a weightless voyage into the cosmos - or perhaps into Paul's "conscious self." Here, we glide among her experiences, both good and bad, weighing them up and seeing them disintegrate into nothing. Black Belt Eagle Scout's cooing vocals guide us through the anti-gravitational track, into its interstellar conclusion where the wordless vocals and laser synths seem to offer us a brief glimpse of a world living in peace.

Black Belt Eagle Scout's new album At the Party With My Brown Friends is out August 30th on Saddle Creek (pre-order). Follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
