Chastity Belt recently released 'Ann's Jam', the first song shared from their upcoming self-titled album, which was produced with Jay Som and will be released through Hardly Art on September 20th. Today they return a gorgeous second glimpse of Chastity Belt with new single 'Elena'. Bassist Annie Truscott says on the track:

“Over the past year, we all read and loved Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels. We individually related to the ways in which the main character’s sense of self is inextricably linked to her desire for love and validation both from lovers and friends. The overlapping voices on top of the whimsical wave-like instrumentals captures the universal feeling of having a conversation with yourself about yourself.”

While it would be hard to match the breathtaking sweep of Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan quartet in a 3-minute song, Chastity Belt have concocted something that is percolating with the same complex emotions. As Julia Shapiro's vocals overlap with Lydia Lund's atop a lackadaisical guitar-and-drum rumble, plenty of lovelorn thoughts bubble up. Together they look back at their youth and admit "nothing ever turns out right." It's a passive look at their life's trajectory, but with tinged with yearning and regret, a dense knot of thoughts that they get lost in - and musically entangle the listener with them. 'Elena' is a slow-burning jam that ultimately leads to a redemptive feeling of knowing that all the best laid plans are never perfect, and you just have to take life as it comes.
