We're rapidly approaching the release of Crush, the new album from Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points on October 18th. With 'LesAlpx' and 'Last Bloom' already out in the world, today he gives us the final teaser with 'Anasickmodular'. Shepherd tells us:

"'Anasickmodular' was a working title that stuck. The main pad audio and vocals are from a live improvisation at Dekmantel festival in 2017. At some point on the tour we were in Sydney and Anna (who is half of the Hamill Industries team responsible for the live laser/bubble oscilloscope projections) was ill so, on an off day, I started a new project bringing the modular out of its box, hence the title. The second half of the track was recorded live in situ and is a lot of fun to play live!"

The initial tightness and slickness of 'Anasickmodular' belies its improvisational origins. Floating Points sets a percussive buzz back and forth through soundscape as the whirring heart, while synths ooze and squeeze their way into the picture like helium leaking into a new atmosphere. This initial set up continues to increase in pressure and pleasure for the first two minutes, before Shepherd cuts the noise and diverts us on a hallucinogenic tour into soft, deep and erratic techno sounds, guiding us on a shape-shifting trail through the labyrinthine patterns of his mind.

Floating Points' new album Crush is out on October 18th through Ninja Tune (pre-order). Catch his brand new live show at one of these dates:

13 Nov - Paris, FR @ Elysee Montmartre
