London-based trio Girl Ray have revealed that they'll be releasing a second album called Girl on November 8th through Moshi Moshi Records. It's still a long way off, but today they've also shared 'Show Me More', which is perfect for this point in the summer.

Girl Ray explain that 'Show Me More' is about “crushing really hard but having to play the long game and wait it out because your boo is playing savage games. It’s your classic pop banger. Steamy dance floor. Drinks on me.”

There is a hint of irony in the above quote, but at the same time 'Show Me More' does sound like the Girl Ray we know and love, but with added groove. This is in fact the result of their admission to one another of their fully-fledged love of mainstream pop, resulting in a concerted effort to add more overt hooks to their sound, and judging from 'Show Me More' they've struck gold.

By adding a definite groove to their sound in the form of tinkling bells, a popping bass line and swaying guitars, 'Show Me More' is laser-guided at the listener's hips - and it's hard to resist. This R&B filter makes the song's state of yearning all the more vital, with Poppy Hankin's attraction sounding fully ripe and realised. She tries to act coy, watching her desired one across the dancefloor, nervously excited, but the wonderful washes of synth (another new element for Girl Ray) seem to be pulling her out of her shell, boosting her confidence and pushing her towards the arms of the one she wants. It's intoxicating.
