Queer cult favourite John Grant has announced the release of his fourth album Love Is Magic, coming out on Bella Union on 12th October. It follows up 2015's Grey Tickles, Black Pressure and is said by Grant to be "more of an amalgamation of who I am.”

Grant has also shared the fantastic title track, 'Love Is Magic', allowing us an early peak into his new aural phantasmagoria. He is unflinching in his opening queries: "have you got depression? Passive aggression? Did they stop loving you and you're the only one who doesn't know?" There is compassion in this inquisitions, as Grant's friendly voice invites you nearer, like a good friend offering their ear, but as you get closer you see that he is surrounded by a vortex of synthesized sounds and patterns that are going to suck you into their care. 'Love Is Magic' then becomes a vivid and psychedelic anthem of strength, Grant guiding you deeper into his wormhole, where friendly sounds and melodic caresses will imbue you with a new found self-confidence.

Grant says of the album's title and the title track: “Love’s a shitshow that requires work, it’s not all lollipops and rainbows and ’67 Dodge Dart Hemis and STDs and macaroni and cheese and John Carpenter. But nothing can distract from the fact that, in spite of it all, love is still magic.” He manages to conjure up these conflicting feelings in style on 'Love is Magic'; check it out below.
