Julien Chang is a rising 19-year-old from Baltimore who has caught the attention of Transgressive Records, who have quickly snapped up his signature, following the self-release of several home recordings last year. The current student and multi-instrumentalist is adept in trombone, piano, guitar and who knows what else - but the main point is that he knows how to write songs, and he's not confined to one genre.

His new single 'Of The Past', the first released on a label, shows off his impeccable playing talents as well as his abilities with hooks and melody - not to mention the fact that it's self-recorded and produced. 'Of The Past' quickly establishes itself as a dance number, drawing upon classic 80s sounds of disco and synth pop, with Chang's vocals perfectly cresting over his crystalline concoction, softly lamenting. With an adeptness beyond his years, Chang works in perfectly attuned guitars and vibraphone-like arpeggiating, which only increases the hip-shaking irresistibility. Then comes the coup de grâce, Chang's excellently judged and played piano solo, which just mounds another layer of grin-inducing goodness to 'Of The Past'. Check it out below.
