It's been almost six years since the release of Melody's Echo Chamber's self-titled debut album, but it has today been announced that a second album called Bon Voyage will be released on Domino on June 15th.

It seems Melody Prochet has been taking some time to work on many aspects of her life and her musical abilities in the intervening years. She made Bon Voyage in collaboration with Dungen’s Reine Fiske and The Amazing’s Fredrik Swahn, whom she describes as “soulmates and extreme beings, uncompromisingly intense and sensitive.” Her desire to work with them was so strong that she in fact moved to Sweden in 2016 to get the project properly underway. What resulted is a very experimental and collaborative album, recorded in the woods of Solna.

Melody describes the experience, saying: “Swedish nature helped me to breathe and soothed me in times of anxiety. I had a majestic forest with a lake three minutes’ walk from my home. Recording sessions were a break in our lives, an escape from our frustrations as young adults, parents, musicians and embittered life jugglers. What transpired was a kind of modern fairytale full of duality: beautiful and disenchanted, happy and painful, internal and external, childish and mature, but also violent and measured. We had no structure and no limits and we stepped out of our comfort zones.”

The first sampling of the new material is 'Breathe In, Breathe Out', which is the first recorded song to feature Melody on drums. She says "It’s a special one. I’m used to recording with masters of drums and accepting my drum playing as not perfect but with the right intention was a big deal to me."

The result is a forward-thinking psychedelic pop song, reminiscent of Broadcast in the use of layers shimmering of synth and the propulsive guitar rhythm. Complete with whistling and playful clicks, the song is a joyous summery breeze - until it cuts away magically to a spare and desolate interlude - and then launches back into the gazzumping meter of the song. Lyrically Prochet is overcoming her self-doubt and desiring just some time and space to breathe and centre herself. 'Breathe In, Breathe Out' eventually takes joy and freedom from nature, with Melody channeling the Swedish wilderness in which the album was created.

'Breathe In, Breathe Out' comes with an animated video from Daniel Foothead. Watch and listen below.

Bon Voyage comes out on June 15th and can be pre-ordered from the Domino store.
