London-based songwriter Nilüfer Yanya has been talked about so much and so enthusiastically for a little while now, so when she was included on the BBC's Sound of 2018 poll it was a bit of "well, duh" moment for anyone who had heard any of her music. Nevertheless, she is proving the poll right, as she kicks off 2018 with another incredible single to join the clutch she has already put out.

'Thanks 4 Nothing' is an impossibly collected kiss-off to a former fling, letting them know in no uncertain terms that is over for good - and Yanya is trying to stay cool about it, judging by her unflappable delivery. Loping blues-meets-indie guitars and a delicate click track form the basis of this barbed message from Yanya, as she vocally flits about, perfectly encapsulating both the apathy and the agony she has upon seeing that previously beloved person again. Then once it comes to the chorus we cut down to her voice and some washes of guitar as she boldly states: "this is the end/ don't think we can be friends." In her own words, Nilüfer says the song is “drawing a final line under something that should have ended a long time ago. The song shows you can be bitter and grateful about it at the same time”.

The track also comes with an artful video, further highlighting Nilüfer Yanya's poise and the subtly harsh brilliance of 'Thanks 4 Nothing'. Watch and listen below.
