Following hotly on the heels of his just-released EP Aphelion, rising producer Ross From Friends has revealed the details of his debut album Family Portrait, due on Brainfeeder on July 27th.

The album title, Family Portrait, is inspired by his father: “My dad has been hugely influential to the whole thing,” he explains, as he remembers experiencing his dad producing music and pumping tunes in the house through his childhood, always keen to discuss the sounds. This is something Ross From Friends has taken onboard throughout his music, and for his debut album he "tried to be careful with every single sound... trying new things, making a bit more of an explosive sound.” Delving further into the emotional complexities, he says “Every time I went to make music the things which would really grab me are the emotional things, and while I’m in that place I felt I could really focus on the track. That was a massive part of this album, tapping into my emotions… into my emotional instability”.

Lead single 'Project Cybersyn' certainly makes good on these claims, grounding itself on glitched-out twinklings like AI chicks mewling, beneath compressed beats and a hypnotic lo-fi synth melody that guides us throughout the irresistible piece. Throughout the song, Ross From Friends is constantly adding subtle layers of sound - whispering percussion, laser blips and even sumptuous saxophone - but it's all filtered and warped to mesh with his lovingly developed tapestry. The overall feeling is one of homeliness and comfort, but also feeling ascendant because of that, drawing strength and excitement from these warm sounds. Check it out below.

Family Portrait comes out through Brainfeeder on July 27th. He'll be taking the album on tour at these dates:
