Jason Pearce aka J Spaceman has never allowed Spiritualized to go fully dormant, but the small scraps of information that slip out in the long waits between albums are never completely concrete. Thankfully, today he has made the official announcement of Spiritualized's new album: And Nothing Hurt will be released through Bella Union on September 7th, ending the six year wait since Sweet Heart Sweet Light.

Contrary to its title, And Nothing Hurt sounds like a true labour of love for Pearce: "Making this record on my own sent me more mad than anything I’ve done before. We’d been playing these big shows and I really wanted to capture that sound we were making but, without the funds to do, I had to find a way to work within the constraints of what money I had. So I bought a laptop and made it all in a little room in my house... But I was new to it all, I didn’t have all the short cuts people use as when they’re making records – I just sat there for weeks… for months… moving every level up bit by bit just to try to get the sounds right.”

It seems as though the struggle was worth it though, as the two new songs aired today both capture the swelling glory of Spiritualized's heights. 'I'm Your Man' is in the mould of some of Spiritualized's greatest devotionals, Pearce laying it all on the line for his love, backed up by stylish brass and classic organ. This is all wrapped up with a glorious bow as he rips a raw guitar solo towards the song's soul-bearing conclusion. 'A Perfect Miracle' again finds Pearce downcast and apologetic, but the sweetness of his heart shines through from playful guitar lines and the walls of silver synths that act as a stunning backdrop to the whole affair.
