Tunng recently announced the release of a new album called Songs You Make At Night, which was exciting, and made even more so by the fact that it is the first album made with the original lineup in over a decade. They certainly seemed to have found rejuvenation on lead single 'ABOP', and they follow that up today with another pearl called 'Crow'.

Where 'ABOP' was full of vivid and hallucinogenic daydreams, 'Crow' brings us back to reality with a meditation on the best and the worst of what life brings. Sam Genders explains: "'Crow' was inspired in part by Max Porter's book Grief is the thing with Feathers which I loved. In the song the Crow represents all the good and bad that life has to offer. The love of old friends and the seeming cruelty of fate right there in the mix with everything else, giving us what we need to grow and become who we are."

Rarely has the harbinger crow been the inspiration for such a polychromatic song; 'Crow' might be a sombre piece, but Tunng's natural musicianship is so full of life and energy that you can't help but feel uplifted. Each element in the glistening tapestry of 'Crow' is so finely polished and rounded that it floats weightlessly and captivatingly inside a greater whole. At the core it's a folk song, which certainly accentuates Genders' heartfelt and mortal lyricism, but it is taken into a much more unique and undefinable place by Tunng's curious musicianship.
