One of the more special releases on this year's Record Store Day comes from legendary film composer, producer, and actor Van Dyke Parks, in his previously unreleased collection of orchestrations Super Chief: Music For The Silver Screen.

Parks, whose work has been featured on Sesame Street, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, among others, made the compilation with the inspiration of his first cross-country trip via train in 1955. The work, he remarks, is largely inspired by 19th century folk orchestrations touching on Celtic and Aboriginal themes.

The 30-track album will be available for limited release April 20th, with Dyke Parks' new LP Songs Cycled set for release May 6th. As well, Parks will be performing May 5th for All Tomorrow's Parties at the Alexandra Palace in London.

"I've made an orchestral fantasy illustrating my first trip across the U.S.A. by rail, in 1955. This Suite is drawn from over a score of years, and as many films, now re-recorded from my archives as a film-music composer," explains Parks. "Most of this music has been faintly presented, under the din of horse hooves, gunplay, and voice-over. Much of it has never been heard at all, having ended up on editing room floors from entirely re-cut films, or movies that never made it past a box office. I felt it was high time to give it a proper listen."
