According to a tweet from Peter White - international editor of television industry site, Broadcast - the viewing figures for this year's Mercury Prize were markedly lower than they were for 2014's iteration of the music awards, when Young Fathers won the prize. This year Benjamin Clementine won with his album At Least For Now.

White tweeted:

However, this year the awards were broadcast on BBC4 - a channel that doesn't really have anywhere near the same viewership clout that BBC1 or 2 has. This might be a factor. Another factor is: do people care anymore?

With that in mind, having announced The 405's Alternative Mercury Prize Shortlist, this weekend after much deliberation we chose Little Simz as our winner. Huzzah and hurrah!
