Last Wednesday, D'Angelo paid a visit to The Tavis Smiley Show and gave his first TV interview in over a decade. The show, divided in two parts, saw the musician discussing his comeback album Black Messiah, his musical influences, but also his religious views (his relationship with the Pentecostal Church in particular) and influence of music on the Civil Rights Movement: "Music never loses that power, but the powers that be—the bean counters, the execs—they just want to make money and stick to a certain formula that makes money."
