The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards were broadcast last night and it seems that, like most other years, no-one is really bothered who has won any awards, instead looking more at the many cyphers and performances scattered across the proceedings.

The big news this year was Kendrick Lamar continuing his crusade to bring the competition back to hip-hop, which began with his excellent verse on Big Sean's 'Control', by taking shots at Drake and the rest of the hip hop world. "Nothing's been the same since they dropped 'Control'/ And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pyjama clothes," Lamar rapped before later continuing, "Hold up, wait a minute/ Your career ain't shit unless you got some Kendrick in it."

Of course, Lamar was not the only performance of the night, just the one most people will be talking about for some time. A$AP Mob and Action Bronson also spat their own cyphers for the crowd, and we saw performances from the likes of Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Future, Rick Ross, Bone Thugs-N Harmony, and 2 Chainz , all which you can watch below. But it's that Kendrick cypher that is really going to make a splash.
