Last night the UK's Channel 4 broadcast Nas: Time Is Illmatic, the documentary announced by Nas last year in celebration of the 20th anniversary of his 1994 album Illmatic.

It's the first feature-length documentary to look into the origins of the gamechanging album, and the debut effort for its creators, One9 (producer/director) and music journalist-turned-filmmaker, Erik Parker. The film follows Nas' Queensbridge origins, taking in the social issues and conditions he experienced on a daily basis and turning this into art, and focuses on the creation of his now-legendary debut album.

It's now available to stream on Channel 4's catch-up service, 4OD. Watch a trailer for the documentary below if you don't have time to watch the whole thing now.

• Last year we also celebrated Illmatic's 20th anniversary by talking about the album and its impact in this feature.
