Following last year's event in Frankfurt (which was also pretty lo-key), and given the fact that all the major acts and nominations were an emulation of August's VMAs in Brooklyn (Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry performed, so did Robin Thicke, Macklemore & Lewis and Justin Timberlake were leading the nominations, etc), the 2013 MTV EMAs, hosted by ex-LMFAO member Redfoo, had little to no controversial moments (except maybe for Miley's… err.. bathing suit?)

That being said, the show featured a couple of pretty awesome performances, including a flying Katy Perry and a great rendition of 'Wrecking Ball' by Cyrus. Eminem received the Global Icon award and also performed.

You can watch all the highlights from last night's event over at mtvema.com.

Here's the top 10 best things to happen at this year's MTV EMAs:

  • 1. Miley Cyrus opening the ceremony with random people dressed as aliens (the midget scared the hell out of me!)
  • 2. Redfoo's Speedos
  • 3. Ellie Goulding's see-through dress
  • 4. Eminem receiving the Global Icon award after an astonishing performance
  • 5. Katy Perry pulling a butterfly
  • 6. Bruno Mars' rendition of 'Gorilla' - definitely one of the best moments!
  • 7. Miley Cyrus' stripped down performance of ‘Wrecking Ball’
  • 8. Snoop Dogg feeling at home and delivering a solid rendition of his 'Gin & Juice'
  • 9. The Killers making us feel like it's 2003 – i.e., old - with 'Mr. Brightside'
  • 10. Icona Pop showing once again that nobody makes Electronic Pop like the Swedish do.
