Label: FatCat Records Release Date: 04/05/09 Link: Part of that already impressive clique of Scottish bands, Edinburgh's We Were Promised Jetpacks add the heavier frontier to Frightened Rabbit and Twilight Sad's already sturdy base. We Were Promised Jetpacks' new single 'Quiet Little Voices' isn't all bluster though, it has a melody and chorus that make you knees tremble, and it sounds huge. I mean really huge. There's more than a hint of 'The Rat' by the Walkmen in there, added with a dry Scottish slur that mainly takes a back seat to the crunching guitars and punchy bass that drag the song into a chorus that explodes into a wall of noise. It's as fast and anthemic as it is loud, sounding nothing short of epic. 'Quiet Little Voices' is a well thought out song too, not your usual trundling four minutes or so, it keeps you guessing; building and dropping ending up at a massive nod along anthem. WWPJ's album is out in May and, on this form, it should be worth the wait. Unlike The Walkmen after 'The Rat,' hopefully they will be able to maintain these high standards they are setting themselves. Rating: 9/10
