Label: One Little Indian Release date: 08/11/10 Link: Myspace For the uninitiated, Wild Palms make music that is at once epic and down to earth at the same time. It has the same ethereal feel and falsetto as Wild Beasts and Hercules and The Love Affair but without the former’s love of synth or funk. In its place is slow burning, paced music that wouldn’t be a million miles away to Kasabian slowed down to half speed. Starting with the stronger of this AA, To The Lighthouse, Wild Palms make a song that’s smooth and perhaps a bit repetitive, but effectively hypnotic from it. It’s slowly paced, but builds nicely and breaks down well, and leaves a good impression, if not a lasting one. The biggest problem is that Draw In Light isn’t really that different. Yeah, it’s a good song, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but it really follows the same formula, build ups and drops. I can understand two songs like this on an album, but two on a single? It doesn’t really showcase your talent. Well, we’ve got two good songs, if not great songs. It’ll be interesting to see where they go from here, they’ve got the potential for a great album, if they can find a way to develop their sound. Photobucket
