The first time I listened to Youth Club, I automatically assumed they were from California - after all, how could you not with their sun-drenched indie-pop sound that feels like it's tailored for the beach? It was much to my surprise then when I found out that they're from Southend-on-sea, which despite being a seaside resort town, never gets particularly warm.

Much like the lovechild of Two Door Cinema Club and Phoenix (with a dash of early Tokyo Police Club, perhaps as the cool uncle), they come packaged with refreshing and fun guitar licks abound that's destined to put a smile on your face. It's obvious that the quartet have a good ear for a strong melody - in particular on 'Breathe', 'People', and 'Nothing' - and it may just be that that'll skyrocket them into the highest tiers of alternative. Get a taste for it yourself by streaming their EP Brothers below, which is out on 23 March via Lab Records.

If you're interested in seeing them live, they're playing an EP release party at Birthdays in London on 6 February, and you can pick up tickets for just £5.50 here.
