Yesterday, Zhala finally announced details of her self-titled debut LP, so we decided to quiz her about it. We can't help it. We're just curious people.

Inspirations? Check. Excitement? Check. Aliens? Check. Tears? Check. Kurdish trance? Check. Freedom? Check. Alice In Wonderland? Of course!

Zhala is out May 25th via Robyn's Konichiwa Records.

What's the inspiration/idea behind the album?

The album is created through the concept of my childhood dream - to produce a classic pop album. I'll leave whatever that is up to the listener but for me it's a personal collection of Kurdish trance in a Swedish flag - a universe full of love but also a dead serious struggle for freedom.

Are you excited about the album's release?

I can't be more excited. I've been waiting for this since I finished it - to share it will who ever wants to listen and be a part of the journey I'm exploring audio visually with my live performances, videos and whatever the future holds.

Is there any particular time or place in the universe where it'd sound best?

It would be perfect to stream from all the satellites in space so both humans and aliens and particles and whatever doesn't have a "name" yet can share a collective moment.

How do you hope or imagine people will react to it?

With love and excitement. Hopefully it will last for hours and hours, years and years. I think there really is something for everyone; it's democratic but still specific. You can dance, chill, cry etc. Everyone's free to react however they want.

Could you tell us about the artwork?

The cover makes me think of Alice In Wonderland, right before she falls down the rabbit hole. She's still in our concept of reality but can sense something else that she would like to explore. With not showing my face I allow the viewer to imagine themselves if I'm undressing/laughing/crying/being a subject or not. There's no gaze, only a journey. The cover is shot and digitally created by Tony Karlson who is my main boo and we shot it last fall with Märta Thisner and Nicole Walker - the future.

You created the album with one sole collaborator. Is this something you're likely to repeat in the future? If so, who would you like to work with?

I love Mathias Oldén so, so much. He has my heart and ears and voice - he sees me without any limitations and will continue to do so. I will definitely collaborate with other artists and expand my atmosphere.

What's the best pop song of all time?

The Radio Dept. - 'Never Follow Suit'.

We recommend streaming this lovely remix of 'Aerobic Lambada' by TR/ST:
