Legendary Country musician George Jones, also known as The Possum, sadly passed away this morning following his admittance to hospital for irregular blood pressure and fever.

The Nashville legend was born in Vidor, Texas in 1931, and managed to clock up number one songs in five decades between the 1950s and 1990s.

His accolades include being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992, being named a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2008 and receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2012. [via BBC]
