Ever wondered exactly how much Spotify pays musicians? Wonder no more: the fee was revealed this morning by Spotify as part of the platform's dedication to transparency amongst its audience.

Every track pays an average of $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream to rightsholders, which is probably a mix of both premium (calculated at about $0.01 per stream) and free services.

In its new Spotify for Artists site, the company explains that 70% of all the revenues are paid to the rightsholders, with only 30% kept by Spotify. The money is generally paid to record labels who then distribute a percentage to managers and artists. However, a part of Spotify artists use platforms like CD Baby, that allow artists to receive up to 95% of their royalties. [via Music Week]
