Label Kartel Release Date: 06/09/10 Link: Official Site Buy/Stream: Amazon/Spotify When genres are revisited they are usually reinvented and modernised. Grunge is a genre that has been rediscovered many times as a lot of bands around now grew up on the Seattle sound of the 90’s. The Vines are one of the few to take it on and breathe a bit of fresh air into it with their own take. Dead Confederate come out of the northern state Georgia, and they are set to release their second record, Sugar. The album sounds dated from the very start with opening track ‘In The Dark’ highly influenced by Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine whilst ‘Run From The Gun’ could be mistaken for Smashing Pumpkins. The North American five piece do have moments that shine, ‘By Design’ is one that does stand out as they decide to leave the feedback out, ‘Giving It All Away’ is almost uplifting. The majority of the record echoes sounds of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jnr more than just influences’. The album isn’t something I would choose to listen to but I can hear what the band are trying to do it’s just a shame it’s fifteen years too late. Photobucket
