You know that challenge where you have to eat a doughnut without licking your lips? Well, listening to EKKAH is a very similar experience in that it is completely impossible to keep still and resist the urge to start dancing when their infectious tunes are playing.

EKKAH is the brainchild of best mates Rebekah Pennington and Rebecca Wilson (you see what they did there?) and their debut EP is a superb blend of funked-up bass fused with infectious vocal melodies and '80s Madonna-style pop hooks. It’s all about shameless and irresistible dance-floor pop that makes you pine for a night out on the tiles and proves that girl power is very much alive and well in the world of pop music.

The EP's title track is a testament to the signature sound that they have cultivated that's ultimately made for the midnight hour. It invites you to take your coat off and dance like no one is watching. The entangled funky bass riff that drives the whole thing perfectly supports the breathy vocals and gives the track a dazzling dusting of that Friday-night-feeling of excitement. It encapsulates the magic of a great night out and making the most of it before the DJ plays the last track and the lights are about to come on.

'Ex-Change' is another groove-driven track that is laced with intensely catchy pop melodies that drive right into your skull and demand to be played again and again. This is what pop should be about. Then there's 'Holiday Blues', with its cleverly Madonna-esque vocal lines and multilayered platforms of beats, riffs and vocal hooks that further demand your attention. It's darker than the previous tracks and bleeds with different shades of disco lights.

It's all drawn together by the subtly '90s R&B-inspired 'Only U 4 Me' which is a lot more stripped-back and possesses a deeper tenderness as the two Becca/Bekah's trill "Only you for me/ Only you for me/ No I don't ever want to love another man if I've got you, baby." It's simple and presents its emotions in black and white, which is what makes it so emotive and romantic.

Just like any great party, when it's all over, you wish it would never end, and thus the repeat button is quickly pressed. There is no denying the similarity to artists such as JUCE who are doing a similar thing at the moment, but does it even matter when it sounds this good?
