From the string laden opening of ‘The Wider Sun’ and the techno derived title track ‘Insides’ there is something of a rare quality here. The single ‘Light through the veins’ starts with the simplest of keyboard motifs before a dramatic build of drums, keyboards, and found sounds take it to the chill out classical guitar coda that brings the track to its fade. The closing solo piano ballad ‘Autumn hill’ finishes the album, and although this is not dance music to play at a sweaty club, the whole album has something of an autumnal feeling to it, with the insistent nature of the piano playing adding something new and original to an already crowded field.
