When the tastemaker lists were being compiled at the dawn of 2014, an artist who's name was ever commonplace was Cambridge-based artist James Page; better know under his adopted Finnish moniker, Sivu. It'll be of little surprise why to anyone who's given his music even the most pedestrian of listens; intelligent lyrics over a bedrock of angular leftfield pop earned the 25-year-old songwriter endless (and well deserved) comparisons to contemporaries such as Alt-J and Wild Beasts. Looking out across a sea of faces at a sold out Roundhouse Studio show it looks like the early hype is building momentum.

Taking to the stage with an ever-growing collection of supporting musicians, Sivu burst into life with opener 'Love Lives', a new track taken from his upcoming debut LP. In spite of the ever-odd decision to start with an unknown track it's well received by the passionate crowd, and shows encouraging signs of things to come for the much-anticipated record. Next up is 'Bodies', an early favorite with fans. Waves of quirky staccato guitar work and falsetto vocals in its verse break into an anthemic chorus, rich in dark biblical references and jolting percussion.

There's impressive diversity across the set with the lush balladry of 'Communicate', the pop sensibilities of early hit 'Better Man Than He' and the twisted Americana of 'Family Tree'. However, it's on 'Can't Stop Now' (the title track to his latest EP) that we see where the future of this artist looks to be set. Bright pastel lights criss-cross the stage as the band cut loose with a flurry of electronic distortion and infectious melodic hooks. Simply put, it's brilliant. "I've been in band's since I was 14" states Page, "...and that song is about how I've come too far to stop now."

As the raucous last thundering chords of the sublime closer, 'Sleep', has crowd in utter jubilation, and with a debut album on the way late this summer, he's showing little sign of stopping. No, I think this is a journey that's just getting started.....
