Label: Moshi Moshi Release date: 06/12/10 Link: Official Site The thing about Christmas songs is that we just would not listen to them at any other time of year. Come December, however, and they are everywhere. We lap them up. Why? Well, because they are damn good fun – and fun is exactly what this time of year is all about, right? So, no doubt with that in mind, the good folks over at Moshi Moshi have sent a handful of their bands into the studio to have a little fun with some classic Christmas songs. The result is this 6 track EP, Moshi Moshi - A Christmas Gift For You, which by now you will probably be unsurprised to learn, is a lot of fun. First up is Slow Club with their version of Darlene Love's 'Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)' which is delivered with all the energy and enthusiasm that you would expect from them. You cannot help but conclude that they must have had a great time recording it because it is joyous to listen to. Rather predictably Summer Camp opted for something from the '80s with The Waitresses' 'Christmas Wrapping' and equally predictably it is hugely enjoyable. All the usual synths and woozy vocals are present and if you are even a casual fan of Summer Camp then you will be happy with this offering. James Yuill gives us a unique version of 'Winter Wonderland' complete with synths and beats complimenting the acoustic guitar while Ingo Star Cruiser do a wonderfully quirky version of Low's 'Just Like Christmas'. Idiot Glee change the pace with a gorgeous, understated 'White Christmas' which doesn't quite make it past one and a half minutes – this is a shame because it really is lovely. That leaves Hot Club De Paris to close the party with their Christmas single from a few years back 'Will You Still Be In Love With Me Next Year?' which is all jangly guitars and punchy melodies and it sits very nicely on this little compilation. So if you are looking for a little Christmas cheer then you can trust Moshi Moshi to help you out with this charming little EP. It really is fun, you know! Photobucket
