Full disclosure: I do some work for RED5, and they kindly sent me a VEHO M4 360 Bluetooth Speaker for review purposes. However, it wasn’t a freebie, I had to send it back, and if it had been anywhere near as terrible as other portable speakers I’ve had the misfortune to use, I would have given them the bad review they deserved. Portable speakers for your iPhone or MP3 player are never going to be amazing, however it is always a nice surprise when you get something that doesn’t sound tinny as all hell coupled with a non existent bass response.

Thankfully the VEHO M4 is pretty decent as portable speakers go. It’s small enough to be considered pocket size (which, as always, is completely dependent on your pockets) and the 2 x 2.2 watt speakers pack enough of a punch to warrant the £40 price tag. If you’re an audiophile, then it’s probably not for you (but then it’s doubtful you’d be in the market for a set of portable speakers), but I can say that the sound quality, while not amazing, still beats other portable speakers of similar size and price (or at least those I’ve used).

The Bluetooth connection is easy to set up with your smart phone, like most Bluetooth devices, and has a 20 metre range - but if you want to conserve the battery on both your gadgets, or you want to hook up something that isn’t Bluetooth enabled, then you can using the 3.5mm headphone jack lead that’s included. Another great perk is the Micro SD card slot, so if you just want to use the speaker without hooking it up to anything, just preload your tunes on to a micro SD card and you’re good to go.

If you’re looking for a stocking filler, or just something to use when you’re on holiday, and don’t need the volume to shatter the windows, then you could do a lot worse.

The VEHO M4 360 Bluetooth Speaker is available for £39.95 from RED5
