In the never-ending treasure trove of truly embarrassing leaked emails from 2014, it was revealed that Sony's exclusive music streaming service went under with just 20,000 subscribers.

In a publishing statement leaked to Digital Music News, the service struggled to increase its user base from May of 2014 to January of this year, when it was announced it would be shut down. In total, Sony Music Unlimited was available in 19 countries.

After folding, Sony altered its approach, premiering Playstation Music in partnership with Spotify, which reached a reported 41 markets, as well as the company's Xperia phones and tablets. The new service reaches Sony's entire network of Playstation users, which is roughly over 64 million.
