Things We Liked

As mentioned above, Loupedeck is a photo editing console for Adobe Lightroom. It works with Adobe Lightroom 6 and Adobe Lightroom Classic CC, and that's it. Operating system-wise, it functions with Mac (Mac OS 10.13, Mac OS 10.12, Mac OS 10.11, Mac OS 10.10) and Windows (Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7). If you happen to fall outside of those requirements, then this product clearly isn't for you.

If you do happen to meet the mark, then what you'll find here is a product with a steep(ish) learning curve that rewards investment. But the learning curve isn't defined by the product itself - it's all pretty straightforward - it's more to do with habit. Given that it's vastly different from using a keyboard and mouse - and that there's nothing else like it on the market unless you count video editing suites (the approach, at least) - it's going to be a much slower process to begin with.

Give it time though and you'll be blasting through photo edits super fast. But it's not just about speed - In a way, it's made me be more creative, which is partly down to how refined the process is. You twist a dial to tweak the saturation or shadows and due to how small the increments are, your edits become super precise. I've somehow become a perfectionist since the Loupedeck turned up, poring over the same photo for what seems like an eternity, which I guess doesn't feed into the 'speed' part of the mission statement, but certainly the 'fun' aspect.

Another plus point is the ability to personalise some of the controls - which is a nice way of fitting the product around specific workflows. Outside of its functionality, Loupedeck is a beautiful looking product (I'm surprised Apple haven't tried to slap their logo on it), with an incredibly robust build quality, which is important. Your money goes a long way.

Things We Didn't Like

Nothing, honestly. It does everything that it promises.

Is It Worth The Money?

It's going to take you a while to feel the benefits of a product like this, but the more time you invest, the faster your editing should become. For the average photo editor, the Loupedeck might feel like an unnecessary addition given the price, but for anyone editing on the regular, it's well worth the money.
